Game 5 of the ALCS had an 18.4 rating. This was higher than NBC and ABC combined–and ABC was showing Monday night football. Not something that’s gotten much attention. Whenever a weak MNF games beats a baseball playoff game, however, we’re treated to any number of hysterical screeds about how baseball is in deep deep trouble blah blah blah.

Now, personally, I have no interest in such stories either way. I don’t care now that baseball has more cachet than the NBA, and I don’t care when it was reversed. I am not a shareholder in an MLB team, so what the hell do I care? If you prefer the NBA, good for you. I’ll argue with your appalling judgment, but you should watch what you want to watch. But it’s worth noting that it’s baseball that’s particularly likely to be subject to this kind of crap.
