“Immersion” by me

I toyed with the idea of writing a review of “Midsommar,” but lately I’ve been feeling self-conscious about my writing, especially when it’s not “funny” and occasionally even when it is.

I thought it might be more enjoyable (for everyone) if I made a sort of “Midsommar” open thread. It can even be an Ari Aster open thread, if you prefer.

I see so many of the same themes in this film as I do in “Hereditary:”

  • How grief effects people.
  • How miscommunication can be devastating, even deadly.
  • How alien and scary secret rituals can be.

I mean, there were so many overlapping themes in “Midsommar” it almost functioned as a sort of sequel to “Hereditary,” for me.

Overall, I loved the movie. I “enjoyed” it more than “Hereditary,” because while it was certainly creepy and trippy and bizarre, it did not traumatize me.
