Were you aware that Mike Huckabee is a racist? If your answer is “yes,” then you are like basically all Americans, including his own supporters, which is why they like him. All Americans that is except for the Beltway media, who love them some folksy white men. Evidently, part of the Beltway is a drug that turns off your brain to critical thinking when Republican daddies are in the room. As you are probably aware, Huckabee issued a grotesquely racist tweet the other day. This surprised precisely no one who was not in the media. But holy Christ.
I remember when the man who sent out this tweet below was a source of civility and genuine good humor in politics, and had an appealing human touch. I miss that man. Perhaps the country does, too. https://t.co/TXuMQPhKO0

The Mike Huckabee I covered during the 2008 campaign would have roundly condemned this. https://t.co/Sw0istlQXh

C’mon! Huckabee was always a disgusting right-wing extremist. That was his whole deal! Yes, in 2008, Republicans didn’t feel they could be as openly racist as their base now demands. That doesn’t mean that the Huckabee of 2018 is a different man than the Huckabee of 2008. It means he can now express how he actually feels because white people have gone all in on open racism! There was nothing about Huckabee’s 2008 presidential campaign policy proposals that suggested anything but someone who would hurt people of color in every way possible. But given the inability of Beltway journalists to think critically about the people they are covering, they can’t see even the most basic facts about these people.
Pathetic. Expected, but pathetic.
