Horace Silver, R.I.P.

I first discovered Silver as a player with Art Blakey’s amazing 50s bands, and then picked up the stunningly good Song For My Father. That pretty much exhausts my knowledge of his solo work, so I hope that the jazz heads in our audience will offer some guidance.

Speaking of which, I have neglected to thank MVP commenter Howard for sending me Let Freedom Ring and Accelerando. Come to think of it, Silver’s influence can be felt in Iyer’s work both as composer and player, one reason that Iyer is now an actual certified genius.

…Apparently, the reports are false, which is terrific news. I’ll leave the post up, since Silver still merits the tribute!
