Worst Person in the World

[ 59 ] March 13, 2013 | Erik Loomis

Erick Erickson for this lovely tweet:

That lefties are accusing the new pope of handing over lefties to the right wing junta for execution makes me adore the new pope.

Says just about all you need to know about the hate driving much of the modern conservative movement.

….Colin on the history of the new pope and the Argentine dictatorship.

  1. Clark says:

Without hate, the only thing they would have is resentment.

    • Ken says:

Hate, resentment, fear, and ruthless efficiency – our four weapons are hate, resentment, fear, ruthless efficiency, and an almost fanatical devotion to the Pope – five, our five weapons are…

    • LosGatosCA says:

What’s a deeply religious conservative Christian to do? Root that people don’t feel the wrath of fascism or experience the ultimate sacrifice in service to ‘conservative principles’ as practiced in right wing authoritarian regimes?

The Old Testament God of Vengeance has outsourced his powers for judging and summary condemnation to death to the Republican party faithful and sympathizers. It’s right there in the Bible. You can read it if you have been given the right to purchase the secret code required to understand these powers to righteously torment those not favored by their god created in their own image.

Liberals have never understood that someone has to do the smiting so they can turn the other cheek. That’s compassionate conservatism

  2. TribalistMeathead says:

Former CNN correspondent Erick Erickson, no less!

  3. Bill Murray says:

Erick can’t even get that right as the Catholic priests in question were found alive, drugged and nude, five months after their disappearance. Probably just some more fraternity hijonks

  4. It’s ingrained through Christianity. The problem is that you have the gospel example of Jesus turning in Judas to the authorities to be killed, then Jesus joins the money-changers and gets wealthy enough to mount a successful campaign for mayor of Jerusalem.

If that’s not a poisonous example to start out with I dunno what is.

  5. Funkhauser says:

Yeah, Erick, thank goodness some liberal Jesuits didn’t interrupt the gleaming success that was El Proceso de Reorganizacion Nacional!

  6. Malaclypse says:

Clearly, Yeshua ben Yosef would favor turning people over to authorities for execution.

  7. herr doktor bimler says:

So “lefties are accusing” = “one lawyer in 2005″.

If this is enough to make EE “adore the new pope”, one suspects that he was already predisposed in that direction.

  8. actor212 says:

Who are these “lefties” Irky Irkedson always refers to?

  9. Derelict says:

This truly does illustrate Cleek’s maxim that conservatism is whatever pisses off liberals, updated daily.

  10. actor212 says:

BTW, has anyone ever demanded he produce his long form CoB?

Erickson was born in Jackson, Louisiana, moved to Dubai, United Arab Emirates when he was 5 and returned to Jackson when he was 15.[2][3][4][5] Erickson attended the American School of Dubai, previously known as the Jumeirah American School.[6]

    MADRASSAH! ISLAMOFASCIST! SHARIA LAW!

  11. Anonymous says:

Make no mistake: Erickson would rejoice if this blog’s proprietors, to say nothing of its commenters, were killed by a right-wing death squad. He really would.

    • somethingblue says:

It would be nice to think that’s a bit hyperbolic.

      • Malaclypse says:

It is hyperbolic. Erickson would mourn JenBob.

      • Anonymous says:

Do you think the “lefties” whose murder Erickson admires were any more “left” than most of the present company?

I’m just taking Erickson at his word.

        • Anonymous says:

I don’t believe Erickson ever thinks before he opens his mouth. He probably saw someone “leftist” criticizing the new pope and blew up. That said, he clearly doesn’t see human rights abuses as a serious issue-at least not when committed by right-wing regimes.

          • sharculese says:

He’s very concerned with the human rights abuse of forcing companies to provide healthcare to their employees with ladyparts, if that counts.

  12. rea says:

Goodness-people complained about Benedict’s ties to the Nazis, although that was rather unfair considering his age at the time and the danger of resistance. Francis, though, seems to be an authentic Fascist.

  13. Manju says:

Sure, this guy was complicit in the kidnappings of hundreds of children. But the other guy was complicit in the raping.

So, stop complaining. We’re improving here. Why are you liberals always setting the bar so high? Jesus.

  14. wengler says:

And here I was thinking the Nazi zombie genre had already played itself out.

Seriously though, unlike past centuries leftist critics of the Catholic Church now have the choice to leave the church. It will continue to be a bastion of reactionaries until the whole thing dies off.

  15. herr doktor bimler says:

This statement by Funes informed the court that the two Jesuits were abducted on 20th May 1967 after Bergoglio removed their religious licenses to preach in Bajo Flores as well as their protection.

Does Argentinean law afford a special status to testimony from mnemonists?

  16. gcwall says:

The bloggers who waste time attacking right wing mendacity miss the point. Right wing constituents take pride in the bullshit their leaders invent. They recognize the ability to bullshit others as significant of intelligence. Whether they are marketing professionals, psychologists, writers, politicians or grifters, many people take pride in their ability to bullshit others. Some people choose to do this as a form of entertainment; others as a means of testing the experience of another person, but all use mendacity to gain or maintain the advantage.

Liberals cannot cause shame or embarrassment by exposing right wing propaganda, because the right wing considers liberal exposure of bullshit to be a weakness in character, such as being a snitch, tattletale, backstabber or “goody-two-shoes”. Nobody is thrilled with the “gotcha” with the exception of weak people. Conservatives believe that if a person is suspected of bullshitting than the game is to out-bullshit the bullshitter. Don’t snitch, get even. Among conservatives if one out-bullshits a bullshitter, the challenger carries the day.

    • sharculese says:

You seem to be under the impression that this is some sort of serious response, and not rubbernecking. Not sure where you got that from.

    • Kyle says:

For the Right, the ability to tell blatant bullshit and have it believed, or at the least unchallenged, is a sign of power they revel in.
If you can condition the rubes to believe the Earth is 6000 years old despite vast volumes of evidence to the contrary, then you can manipulate them in all kinds of profitable ways.

  17. McKingford says:

Prod a doughy right winger enough and you’ll sure to find the inner fascist clawing to get out…

  18. Sharon says:

Well, he takes the bus to work, so he’s got that going for him.

    • ajay says:

Well, he takes the bus to work, so he’s got that going for him.

That’s going to turn Erickson right off him again.

  19. rm says:

Reminds me of when Limbaugh, ostensibly having never heard of the Lord’s Resistance Army, attacked Obama for helping Ugandans go after them because the terrorists were Christian. Comin’ after your guns and Bibles!

Putting conservates’ beliefs in an international context always seems to reveal them to be death-squad authoritarians.

  20. Steve says:

The church is there for the church. Loathsome as it may be, they will get in bed with anyone (ha!) to preserve the church.
