Covering up serious criminal offenses should, you know, be criminal:

The Roman Catholic bishop of Kansas City-St. Joseph, Robert Finn, and the diocese he leads have been indicted by a county grand jury on a charge of failure to report suspected child abuse in the case of a priest who had been accused of taking lewd photographs of young girls.

The indictment is the first ever of a Catholic bishop in the 25 years since the scandal over sexual abuse by priests first became public in the United States.

    Way too long.

If they’d been public school teachers, they’d been crucified long ago.

    WWJD?

‘Who Would Jesus Defend’ in this?

If he were real, he’d be hanging his head in shame.

The Roman Catholic Church’s heirarchy acted worse than the Mob, who at least realized that, when caught, some of their bad actors had to spend some time in jail just to placate the authorities (or God).

But not the Church – who played hide the molester among all of their parishes, hoping either that they’d change, no one would notice, no one would be able to put 2+2 together, or no one would have the audacity to accuse the Church.

The Catholic Church has abrogated any moral authority until it cleans up any and EVERY abusive Priest, and the people in the system that covered for him.
I wonder how these sociopathic “shepards” of the flock rationalized that fucking their sheep brought them and their victims closer to God?
How does a Church defend those actions. HOW? I’m at a loss to answer either or both.

But, then, I’m a Godless Agnostic/Atheist, so wtf would I know about morality compared to a group that makes NAMBLA look like the Boy/Girl Scouts.

I don’t think there’s ever been a better case for women Priests.
Not that they’d be immune – but they sure as Hell couldn’t do any worse.

If he were real, he would be raining hellfire down on the Vatican and every bishop in the church.

Perhaps renting “The Magdalene Sisters” from Netflix would change your mind. Believers of both sexes do strange things.

“The Roman Catholic bishop of Kansas City-St. Joseph, Robert Finn, and the diocese he leads have been indicted..”.

I quickly scanned the linked report. I may have missed it, but how on earth can a diocese possibly be indicted? Sued for civil damages, sure. But indicted by law enforcement for criminal prosecution? What does that mean?

    • wengler

It’s probably misreporting unless the indictment includes some sort of criminal conspiracy charge.

    • Bill Altreuter

I’d imagine that the diocese is set up as some sort of religious. Or portion under Missouri law, or possibly as a not-for-profit. Corporations can certainly e indicted and found criminally liable.

  • DrDick

Past effing time this happened. I can only hope that this is only the first in many more to come.

  • Oh look, Bill Donohue done exploded.

    • DrDick

      In my dreams! 8-)

  • As with OWS, this is spreading too…

  • cpinva

well now wait just one minute, these were pictures of young girls! it probably took 25 years for him to believe it.

Can we start the extradition papers for Bernie Law yet?

    • DrDick

Also on Papa Ratzi. It goes all the way to the top.

Now you see why the Vatican has to be technically its own country.
