Shorter Daniel Pipes: the only explanation I can come up with for why some Muslim women win beauty pageants is that there’s some nefarious affirmative action conspiracy; after all, who could consider women of color or non-Christian women attractive? I am not a racist crackpot.

The left-wing media bias couldn’t be more obvious, could it? Right-wing beauty queen and vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin is inexplicably held to a higher standard in regard to knowledge of public issues than fatwa-wielding Islamoterrorist* beauty queen Rima Fakih (I confess I had to look up whether birth control pills qualify as controlled substances.)

It’s a curious inversion of the neo-con crusade against the veil; people like him love getting enraged about Muslim women being forced to wear veils, because it gives them an excuse to go save Muslims from themselves. But when Muslim women take off their clothes and display themselves as ideal breeders on the eugenics-stage that American beauty pageants are, it freaks them the hell out on a much deeper level.
Of course, we all know that Miss Oklahoma was robbed because she has conservative values.

The right answer was to say how “unAmerican” and “oppressive” this law is and how great these illegal aliens are for doing “the work that some Americans just won’t do” (like kidnapping, rape, stealing jobs, and driving down wages).
She’s right! Americans are perfectly willing to engage in kidnapping, rape, and stealing jobs! We don’t need any Mexicans coming here to do what we’ll do ourselves!

Pipes’ queasiness-inducing obsession with Muslim beauty queens makes me wonder if his fetishization of Muslims as objects of fear and loathing has gotten to the point that it’s completely circled around to the other side. He can’t stop looking at pictures of her.

Inasmuch as oral contraceptives are prescription-only, they are indeed controlled substances. Folks like Malkin have very little room to grouse about this, as they opposed making the short-course oral contraceptive preparation known as Plan B prescription-only, as well: it was all set to be approved as an over-the-counter medication.

Are they the same thing? I thought “controlled substance” meant something that the government specifically regulated because it posed the risk of drug abuse. Drugs that require a prescription just haven’t been shown to be sufficiently safe for general use.

Yeah, controlled substance has a specific meaning, requiring a license from the DEA. Or that’s what I recall from my parents’ time owning a veterinary clinic. They had to have some sort of license for the drug they used to euthanize animals.
The woman (go Michigan, I suddenly care because someone from my state won) doesn’t know the ins and outs of such law, but firmly believes birth control should be legal. So, still better than the wingnuts Malkin mentions.

Right birth control pills are prescription only but aren’t “controlled substances” under the relevant federal statute that defines such things, but it’s the kind of distinction almost anyone but a drug dealer or Michelle Malkin would have to look up.
