5 minutes of CNN
I haven’t glanced at CNN for months, but at the gym today I clicked over to CNN to see what they were saying about Stevens and the upcoming Supreme Court vacancy. I like to think I’m quite aware that CNN is breathtakingly vacuous and has no discernable redeeming value or purpose, but even I was unprepared for what I saw.
The scene opens with former Minnesota governor and 9-11 truther Jesse Ventura, who appears to be the “host” of the program. He is interviewing disgraced and indicted former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich on the following topic: Are the Tea Party protesters good for America? this little vignette is wrapping up as I tuned in. Back in studio, an young woman of Asian descent with whom I am not familiar appears to be arguing that Obama and Bush are more or less identical because Bush took us to war in Iraq, and Obama took us to war in Afganistan. Ventura’s remaining connections to reality are apparently sufficiently robust for him to call bullshit on this particular narrative, and as he is doing so, he is interrupted by an off-screen and previously unseen Ron Paul, who proceeds to speak uninterrupted for approximately 27 minutes on the dangers of creeping socialism. When he pauses for air, Ventura interrupts to observe that he “makes a lot of sense” and they cut to commercial.
At the current rate of deterioration, what will CNN’s programming look like in 5 years? The mind, it boggles.

I agree with the content of this post but why was it necessary to mention Ventura as a 9/11 truther? I just read the article you linked to and as far as I’m concerned, the positions espoused by Ventura are hardly worthy of ridicule. Why so many liberals are quick to sneer at those who question the official narrative of 9/11 strikes me as odd; after all, LGM wasn’t shy in its disdain of the Bush Administration in virtually all other aspects.

I guess him saying “like a controlled demolition” rather than “IT WAS A CONTROLLED DEMOLITION!!!” is what prevents the label of “truther” from sticking. djw should definitely apologize.

One day, someone will have to explain to me what’s the deal with the free fall thing. If the World trade center towers fell at free fall speed (they didn’t, just look at the debris from the falling towers reach the ground long before the building is finished collapsing) what would that prove exactly? Buildings destroyed by controlled demolition don’t fall “in free fall speed”.
Not much to explain. It’s not only a goofy concept but, as you said, clearly not even close to true if one looks at the event with one’s eyes. Yet thousands of truthers poring over the same videos somehow end up even more convinced. It’s like claiming that a close study of the Zapruder film will reveal that Kennedy was dragged out of the car, thrown into a bathtub and stabbed with an icepick.
It’ll probably look a lot like Fox does now.

While CNN does sound terrible, I think there certainly is a case for Obama being Bush lite. In foreign policy at least, personally I can’t see the ‘Obama doctrine’ being particularly different from the Bush/Wolfowitz doctrine. People like to claim that the incredibly fashionable concept of ‘Just war’ makes him different from Bush, but I think its essentially a smokescreen that he can use to justify American intervention and still be seen as reasonable.
Of that there is no doubt; but trying to hang the invasion of Afghanistan on Obama is pretty wide of the mark…however popular that invasion may have been at the time.

I don ‘t know if I watched the same interview, but it was Ventura on and he had some pointed remarks about Her Palinness (namely, that Navy Seals don’t get to quit halfway through the job).
It probably was a different part of the same show, because the question “Is Palin qualified to be president?” kept scrolling on the bottom of the screen during the section that I watched.
Since switching over to the new format, the letters are too small and not dark enough to read. All of the links section is impossible to see without clicking on it and I don’t want to go to digg.
I will check later. If this is the true new format and you are happy with it, please, keep it.
