The Sausage Factory
It’s unfortunate that they couldn’t get the majority without cutting a deal with these clowns, but the difference (while bad) is also minor, so you do what you have to do.
…and, yes, it didn’t even involve much of a concession; the primary one seemed to be giving Bart Stupak more attention.

…so you do what you have to do to make sure your donors get their payoff. If that means taking a step back on women’s rights to their own damn bodies, well…
“I know it’s Lent,” he said, but added that the bishops could not supply the 60 votes needed in the Senate to approve such a law.
Someone really should ask Stupak why he’s teaming up with rich, old, white male child-abusers to deny American women their full rights as human beings.
Let Stupak have his famewhoring nanosecond in the sun. Progressives are financing an opponent against him in the primaries, and conservatives are calling him Judas. As a Newsweek pundit noted, Democrats who act like Republicans will not win the Republican’s favor. They will throw them out of office and elect real Republicans.
Connie Saltonstall is great. I’ll heartily agree that she needs support and donations right now.

Shh! If Stupak hears, we’ll have to start all over again.
No, our most beloved and benevolent president gave the anti-choice cabal exactly what it demanded. He made the Hyde Amendment, a temporary rider that had to be voted on and approved each year, a permanent feature.
An executive order can’t do that. If when, sometime in a different political universe, the Hyde Amendment was repealed, the executive order would be irrelevant.
. . .And it all ends up with the Republicans calling Stupak a “baby killer” on the floor of the House.
