Random Cake Blogging
My son is having a street hockey birthday party today. Last time we did this I had to create a cake that looked like an ice-hockey rink. This time, however, he asked for this:
Not the most complicated cake I’ve ever been asked to make for a birthday.
But still pretty cool.
It’s going to be yummy, too… in case anyone cares, the recipe I used for “Log Cabin Chocolate Cake” is here.

I like the fact that he’s giving props to Finland. Hockey fans are really the only Americans who know what “SUOMI” means.
Nah, Yoopers, too. Although that’s really redundant after hockey fans. Also probably a fair number of metal fans.
I eat them, but never bake them. So tell me: it looks as if their are 50 teeny-tiny, perfectly aligned, sugary stars in the American flag. Can that possibly be?
That canadian flag must have been difficult to do. Did you just use a regular pastry bag to do it?
I made the cake despite the misgivings about the 375 degree oven (okay, I turned it to 350) and 1 hour cooking time. I think my cake was in for about 30 minutes or so.
Anyway, it is tasty.
Now, do you have a good yellow cake recipe by any chance? (I cannot write that without thinking of Valerie Plame.)
All the recipes I have tried are actually inferior to a box mix. I don’t know why.
My husband just had some and pronounced it the best homeade chocolate cake he has ever had.
