McCain’s Housing Crisis

I haven’t developed any strong feelings about Obama’s VP choice, but I sort of like this guy’s style.

It would have been better if he had pointed out McCain’s idea of a housing crisis is not being able to remember how many houses your Sugar Mama has bought for you.

Update: “At least four” apparently means “at least ten.” But who’s counting? (Info courtesy AmericansUnitedForChange.org)

“Of those 80 million homeowners, only 55 million have a mortgage at all, and 51 million are doing what is necessary –working a second job, skipping a vacation, and managing their budgets — to make their payments on time. That leaves us with a puzzling situation: how could 4 million mortgages cause this much trouble for us all?
–John McCain [Economic Speech in Santa Ana, CA, 3/25/08]

  • The correct answer, McCain’s staff told Politico, is at least four, located in Arizona, California and Virginia.
Also at least three, at least two, at least one, and more than none.

We also would have accepted “about nine, more or less”, “fewer than a dozen, probably”, and “way more than you”.

  • I see the McCain campaign’s response included the line “Does a guy who worries about the price of arugula… really want to have a debate about who’s in touch with regular Americans?” I hope Obama’s campaign responds, “Obviously John McCain doesn’t worry about the price of anything.”

I can’t believe that someone voluntarily bought a home in Crystal City. It’s not like he didn’t have other options.

There is a hidden bonus in all this.
If McCain tries to say that they aren’t really his, he has to publicize the fact that he signed the prenup. For the large numbers who see the President as America’s alpha male, prenups giving control to your wife are not a good thing.

I’m really glad to hear that 51,000,000 Americans are “working a second job [and] skipping a vacation” to keep up with their mortgage payments.
Work yourself to death, it’s the American way.

Kaine seems to be as hard-hitting as Webb. I guess for a Democrat to win in Virginia, you have to develop sharp elbows.

This may be a good thing for McCain: I can see the regular guy appeal in voting for the candidate who literally doesn’t know where his next meal is coming from. :-)

We should have a competition for the most egregious use of the POW defense by the McCain campaign.
This one is certainly in the running, although his spokesman’s response to the “Cone of Silence” thing (in the NYT: iThe insinuation from the Obama campaign that John McCain, a former prisoner of war, cheated is outrageous,i) is up there, too.
